NLH Strategy Fundamentals
Master these concepts to improve your Hold'em game, whether you're a beginner or grinding the mid-stakes.
Position Is Everything
Late position (cutoff, button) gives you information advantage. You see what opponents do before acting. Play tighter from early position and wider from late position. The button is the most profitable seat.
Starting Hand Selection
Don't play every hand. In 6-max, open roughly 20-25% of hands from UTG and expand to 40-50% on the button. Premium hands (AA, KK, QQ, AK) are always opens. Suited connectors play better in position with deep stacks.
Aggression Pays
Betting and raising wins pots two ways: your opponent folds, or you make the best hand. Calling only wins one way. Use your HUD to track your aggression factor and aim for at least 2.0.
Pot Control & Bet Sizing
On wet boards, bet larger (66-75% pot) to charge draws. On dry boards, bet smaller (33-50%) for thin value. Size your bets relative to the pot, not your hand strength.
Use the Built-in HUD
A player with 50%+ VPIP is playing too many hands — value bet wider against them. A player with high 3-Bet% is aggressive — consider trapping with strong hands. The HUD gives you exploitable reads without external software.
Review with Hand Replayer
After every session, review your biggest pots in the hand replayer. Look for spots where you called when you should have raised, or folded when you had the right price to call. The timeline scrubber makes this fast.
